Usurp Synapse
This Endless Breathe
Happy Couples Never Last CD
Usurp Synapse's live performance was an emotional burst of short, tense songs that were nestled around incoherent screams. This Endless Breathe, in my opinion, is their best recorded material and comes close to capturing their awe-inspiring live show.
Throughout the band's existence, Usurp Synapse have released more seven inches and split releases than there are deadly styles of kung fu. A great majority of the releases are already out of print, usually going for a hefty price on auction sites. With only 11:39 of time etched into the compact disc and songs just over a minute in length, This Endless Breathe, their first full-length (if you can really call it that) is unarguably eruptive and contains eight blistering tunes of searing hardcore reminiscent of the tight-knit musicianship of Massachussetts' own Orchid. The atmosphere generated isn't pretty. Impassioned vocals, thick guitar weaves, and frantic drumming using nothing but a small jazz kit all contributed to the amazing force that was the short-lived Usurp Synapse. They were the perfect outlet for the troubles and sorrows brewing deep within each band member and each listener.
Usurp's live assault always gave me goose bumps. This recording comes close, doing a fine job of showcasing their ugliness and beauty. This Endless Breathe would have been the perfect soundtrack to the classic Atari game, Berzerk.
