The Static Age
Blank Screens
Reignition Recordings CD
Blank Screens is a smooth melodic affair that unfortunately fails to create aural goose bumps even with its skin chilling delivery.
The Static Age's unthreatening somber melodic rock encompasses guitar reverberation, '80s styled synth and soft-spoken vocals that echo, and at times, feel like they were recorded in a sub-freezing glacial cave ("Lights In the Attic" and "The Last Night in the West").
More lively rockers like "Skyscrapers" and "Trauma" may peak the interest of some Bloc Party fans. Blank Screens' wintry feel will either help ears combat the hot heat of summer or embrace the artic frigidness of winter. It isn't an overly enticing release, but it does attract your ear's attention. Interesting, but after a few spins my mind's not screaming for more. If you're yearning for moody soft rock backed by cold electronic ambience then take a shot at Blank Screens. It's got enough elements to initially hook your ears in, but it didn't maintain my interest for long. I'll be sticking with my Cure and Antarctica albums.
