The Morning Light
The Sounds of Love
Fearless CD EP

Wow is this some wishy-washy poop rock (that’s pop with two o’s).

Perhaps a condensed music history of what I grew up on would help readers know why I can’t listen to über-sugary melodic rock like The Sounds of Love. The transition from junior to senior high was such an exciting time for me. Starting out with a steady diet of west coast grunge and indie/noise like Mudhoney, Unwound, and Bikini Kill to D.C./Dischord post-hardcore like Jawbox, Fugazi, and Shudder To Think to east coast mid-nineties chugging hardcore like Abnegation, Passover, and Earth Crisis to my obsession with mathy Pittsburgh rock like Shale, Jumbo, and Don Caballero to everything in-between, my ears have always leaned towards creativity, passion, and dissonant rawness. The Morning Light couldn’t be farther from what the aforementioned bands encapsulated.

The Sounds of Love is definitely a clean and vibrant affair, showcasing the typical pop-rock you hear everywhere you go nowadays. Pittsburgh has a rich history of amazing blue-collar rock, but The Morning Light definitely doesn’t sound like they are from the steel city. The Sounds of Love sounds like the soundtrack to MTV’s The Hills. Bitter and old? You bet I am. The Morning Light writes some nice melodies, just keep them away from me.
