The Good Mornings
Self-Titled
Thick CD
This is the ideal soundtrack to those mellow Sunday mornings trapped in bed.
The Good Mornings couldn't be any more laidback, and their moniker suits them perfectly. Soft, melodious, and tranquil, The Good Mornings' sound echoes gentle rockers like Midnight Movie, Mazzy Star, Jenny Lewis, and Slumber Party. The pace is glacial, but it won't make you yawn and fall back to sleep.
The fuzzy guitars warble and swell. Carmen's contemplative lyrics and soft vocals immediately attract your ear's attention. The openers "Reflections of the Sky" and "Tornado" suck you in right away.and then you find it hard to release your mind from the down tempo approach. A few tracks like "That's Fo' Sho'" and "Voices Heard" were less desirable than the rest, but overall The Good Mornings' self-titled release is a relaxing massage for your mind. Plus the addition of the upright bass and electronic playfulness within a handful of songs helps add some extra spice.
It may not be an overly exceptional release, but if you're looking for an album to chill out to, The Good Mornings self-titled full-length would be the ideal choice.
