The First Step's straight-edge hardcore is fast with an endless amount of gang shout-alongs. Same formula, same youthful aggressiveness you've become comfortable with—What We Know is a hard coated sound that will have you pumping your fist and shouting along (that's if you're devoted to a clean lifestyle).
From the photos of the band playing found in the CD layout it looks like it would be a fun experience to see these guys live. With an endless well of energy, The First Step is firm on their straight-edge beliefs; however What We Know doesn't reinvent the hardcore sound. The chord progressions are speedy, the vocals commanding and full of conviction, and the message positive and uplifting—The First Step definitely gets the heart pumping.
If you already have fifteen years worth of hardcore tucked away in your collection it might be hard to squeeze another release in, however What We Know is a fine listen.
