The Fire The Flood
Truth Seekers
No Sleep CD
The sticker on the cover says “RIYL Norma Jean, Nora, Coalesce, and Botch.” Well I like all those bands…and after one spin of Truth Seekers, the forewarned comparisons aren’t too far off.
Truth Seekers contains one mid-paced hardcore ground-and-pound after another. Super thick, super heavy, and extremely pissed, The Fire The Flood pummels ears with an endless amount of chugging crunches, fast feverish hardcore bursts, and sharp metallic crustiness to bruise your auditory nerves into submission (but I refuse to tap out). The Fire The Flood doesn’t play with superior technical proficiency, but they do succeed in making the floor shake and forcing you to tightly clench your teeth and fists.
Truth Seekers’ song length average is about a minute and a half, so you know these guys aren’t wasting any time. They do a fine job of mixing the tempo up. The guttural screams coalesce perfectly with the floor-stomping heaviness, and the dynamically shifting songs never seem to get old. Unfortunately you won’t find The Fire The Flood breaking any new ground on their debut. Nothing exceptional, but Truth Seekers is a passionate ball of fiery hardcore and metal that will make you move. Even old school Pantera fans might find the brutal Truth Seekers worthy.
Patient ears will enjoy the secret track, a hard-edged cover of Nirvana’s “Territorial Pissings.” I’m pretty damn picky when it comes to my hardcore, but I found Truth Seekers an enjoyable release.
