So They Say
Life in Surveillance
Fearless CD
It’s hard to explain why you don’t like a band even though you recognize they write strong songs. So They Say crafts solid melodic rockers, unfortunately there wasn’t much on Life in Surveillance that my ears found memorable.
So They Say reminds me of Armor For Sleep a little, but not as dynamic. The melodic guitar rhythms are too familiar sounding. The majority of the outfit’s sophomore release contains those smooth melodies with a few moments of aggressive hardcore tendencies ready to boil over, especially in “You’re Welcome,” “Wake Me Up,” and the standout track for me, “I Won’t Tell.” Their sound is definitely bulky and the clean production by Matt Hyde (Strung Out, Slayer) helps make Life in Surveillance a smooth listen.
I enjoy the double vocal attack and both singers don’t venture into the screaming and/or growling territory that most singers do nowadays, which is refreshing. If bands like Armor For Sleep and Spitalfield rocks your world, then So They Say may be your favorite melodic rock friend. For me, I’ll stick with my Armor For Sleep releases.
