Shit Outta Luck
Family Tradition
Organized Crime CD EP

Seriously? That’s the name of the band? Shit Outta Luck? Wowee zowee!

All straight-edgers walk away now. Milwaukee’s Shit Outta Luck loves to drink and they happily sing about it (“Drunk Ta’ Hell” and “Drank Up the Rent”) pretty much on every track of Family Tradition.

Shit Outta Luck contains a gritty laidback heavy rock sound that any bar regular drinking away his or hers woes would be receptive to. There’s some super thick Motörhead influenced rockers like “Anchors Down” and “Friday Night Fights,” and a majority of the band’s songs are led by bluesy string bending riffs and raspy vocals yelling about drinking, relationship troubles, brawling, and more drinking.

“She’ll Pull You Down” was definitely the highlight on Family Tradition for me. Surprisingly Family Tradition was better than anticipated from my gut reaction to the group’s moniker. There was even moments when the mighty Tad came to mind, but I’m finding it hard to get past these lyrics: “Until you hit me baby, like a ton of bricks / Oh, I can tell you woman I could give a shit / Choke on down just another drink / I ain’t got time to fucking think.”*

I can’t relate, but when I get the urge to throw back a few Yuenglings and knuckle up to my wife Family Tradition will be the first album I go to (which will probably be never).
