Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra
Self-titled
Self-Released 4CD Box Set
"They should have a name for this kind of music."
"They already do, Beavis: Crap."*
At first glance, the packaging and artwork for this debut 4 compact disc release which actually contains 5 discs (yes, you read that right) really gets your attention. Unfortunately, the music contained therein, if you can call it that, is unlistenable.
The Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra is Professor B. Miller ("mad scientist extraordinaire," responsible for the music) and SPO-20 (the robot who sings). The "music" sounds like Stephen Hawking talking over minimalist electronic beats. That's it, five discs of this. The bio says this duo has been together since '96 and actual plays live. I don't believe it.
The packaging and layout looks like it took time and a little extra care to construct and layout. The characters and artwork is dreamlike and imaginative. Check them out at SatanticPuppeteer.com. The music is anything but. I hate to say it, but this is the worst album my ears have experienced in all my thirty years. There's a reason why Stephen Hawking is a physicist and not a singer. Music is suppose to inspire, however Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra repels ears with boring, droning electronic awfulness.
