Hours and Hours: A Tribute to Seaweed
Engineer CD Compilation
Seaweed was one of those amazing '90s melodic hardcore-punk outfits that would share equal airplay in my stereo with Samiam and Jawbreaker. Incredible songs, vibrant energy, and an influential sound that is definitely missed nowadays (seriously, you have to admit the '90s was an amazing decade for underground rockage). I never had the opportunity to see this band rock it live, but I guess I can always hope for a reunion.
I'll be the first to tell you I can't stand tribute or cover compilation releases. I'd rather stick with the original version of the song, the good version, you know? Most of these compilations I usually listen to once and dispose. Not sure why you would want to constantly spin Hours and Hours over Seaweed classics like Weak, Four, and Spanaway (or any of their albums). It is interesting to hear a band's take on another band's song. Hours and Hours contains some cool covers with tracks worthy of repeat listens, but in the end it will just have you itching to play an original Seaweed release.

The covers are cool, but I'm going to dust off those Seaweed releases that have been shelved way too long. Releases like this only makes you value and admire the band they're paying tribute to all that much more.
