Born of Osiris
The New Reign
Sumerian CD
If Skeletor had a house band rocking out for him at his Snake Mountain fortress, Born of Osiris would have been the perfect choice.
This is heavy heavy stuff. The New Reign contains enough whip-lashing metal and melodic guitar licks to keep your mind’s attention in full lockdown. All songs clock in at an average of two to three minutes making for short but impressive tracks. Born of Osiris’ complex and ever shifting songs help make The New Reign an intense and enjoyable listen, and for the restless there are numerous breakdowns. The vocals are super guttural and the technical proficiency as loose as a tight noose.
This Chicago based outfit is super young, but they’re definitely shredding ears with some of the most interesting metal you’ll ear nowadays amongst the vast sea of mediocrity. Normally I cringed when I hear those keyboards, but here they work perfectly, especially on potent thrashers like “Open Arms to Damnation” and “Rosecrance.” The synth adds an extra eerie element similarly echoing those hair-raising sounds found in a classic Dario Argento film, particularly when it comes to the spine-chilling keyed notes in “Abstract Art.”
Memorable? Absolutely. Trust me, from track uno to the final piercing note of the last track, your head won’t stop banging up-and-down and side-to-side. Definitely get acquainted with this new metal group. Two goats up!
