Black My Heart
Before the Devil
Eulogy CD

Black My Heart's jabbing metallic hardcore isn't bad, but Before the Devil doesn't really bring anything new to the ear-crunching floor-punching genre.

Featuring ex-members of On Broken Wings, the straight-edge Boston based band crunches and slashes and pummels through nine strong tunes, but repetitive chord chomps quickly become tiresome. The vocals are raspy and straining, but they are supported by a good amount of youth-crew backing shouts. There are aggressive sped-up parts, but Black My Heart seems to embrace the sluggish moshable parts more, similarly echoing outfits like Throwdown and Bury Your Dead.

Before the Devil will definitely get the adrenaline pumping, but after one spin, you'll find yourself wandering away to find a different heavy-hitter to stomp around to. It's ok, but it still lacks that extra dynamism to keep it constantly spinning.
