Balboa
Manifeste Cannibale
Forge Again CD EP

I really dug Balboa's debut self-titled release that stitched a dirty patchwork of hardcore, punk-rock, and melancholic melodies together. The Manifeste Cannibale EP is an exciting follow-up that contains nice growth and even more rabid songs goaded by anger.

"These four songs have been inspired by the atrocity that is the United States."*

There are not as many stomping breakdowns and metallic crunches as there were on their debut, but Manifeste Cannibale hands out more stinging lashes with grimy punk-rock that instinctually bolts forward. It's a more direct sound, but it's a sound that still drips with venom.

The third track "Manifeste Cannibale" contains a sample of Democratic Senator Zen Miller's speech taken from the Republican National Convention. Balboa's strong distaste for the many voracious acts of the U.S. government is strongly felt throughout the EP. Oh, so you say you don't follow politics or have no concern of what your government is up to? Well, that's just the mind-set Balboa is ready to knock out of you and Manifeste Cannibale is the release that will do it.

The Philadelphia based Balboa strikes hard on their newest attack, which is somewhat reminiscent of Kaospilot and even Antioch Arrow. Manifeste Cannibale is four tracks of good blistering punk-rock that contains grimy layers of guitar buildups and angst-ridden screams. This band's frustrated delivery and firm beliefs are worth your attention and time.
