Asthma Atttaq
Breathe Heavy
Forever Escaping Boredom CD

Breathe Heavy will make you do just that.

I love this stuff. Ever since I got into furious screaming outfits like Saetia, I, Robot, The Spirit of Versailles, Neil Perry, Closure, etc., it's been a form of emotional hardcore-punk that grabs my attention every time. The two-man Asthma Atttaq exorcises disgusting sentiments through a sonic-scream output that may be a little more experimental and adventurous than you're use to, but it's an amazing shock to the system that needs to be felt.

Asthma Atttaq can definitely deliver mind-numbingly, shattering neck-banging crunches and torturous screams that cut right down to your auditory nerves (and it's a surprisingly thick sound for a two man outfit), but the one element that separates the Sarasota, Florida outfit from others is their love to operate, dissect, and explore knew territory. And the duo definitely succeeds by assaulting listeners with exploratory punk-rock that's original and exciting. Asthma Atttaq's attack is not always harsh and ear-splitting, they often wander into adventurous melodic instrumental parts that zigzag and explore endlessly. This mix of heavy and soft helps create the perfect balance.

Track seven (which may be called "I Don't Care If She Is Ms. Hairless America, I'm Spoken For," but the number of track titles don't match well with what's actually on the CD) is a standout song that will spin intriguing webs of playful grating guitar picks and pitter-pat drumbeats around your focused mind. Breathe Heavy will slowly tighten a sonic-punk-bear-hug around your ears, but it will be a submission move you won't want to free yourself from. Now this is innovation that deserves your time.
