Apple of Discord
You’re Not the Answer
Engineer / Azteca CD

Apple of Discord soothes and calms with mellow, slow brewing rock on their newest full-length.

You’re Not the Answer is definitely easy on the ears. A contemplative ride of crystalline melodies and tranquil atmospheres, Apple of Discord warms your heart with braking rhythms that lingers well after the album ends. The music may plod along without urgency, but it’s far from boring.

Like a frosty fusion between the defunct Penfold (their album Our First Taste of Escape should already be in your record collection) and the soft melodious sounds of The Gloria Record, You’re Not the Answer is the perfect soundtrack for those lazy, contemplative Sunday afternoons. Apple of Discord’s softhearted delivery heals like aural Neosporin-like medication with one side affect: goose bumps.

James Cuartero’s heartfelt, soaring vocals are inviting while the simple melodious rhythms seem to slow time to a standstill. Songs like the opener “You’re A Magic Lamp That’s Out Of Wishes and Out of Love” and the melodically charged toe-tapper “Poison Arrow” represents the perfect mold of decelerated rock.

Surprisingly, Apple of Discord has been around since good ol’ 1996. After one listen of You’re Not the Answer it’s obvious that this mature group have masterfully honed their chops writing some of the most ear-grabbing, dawdling rock your ears will comfortably snuggle up with. Definitely cool stuff.
