Antidote
Thou Shalt Not Kill
Hell Bent CD EP

Early 80s New York hardcore done fast and in-your-face, but the brief existence of Antidote was an influential one nonetheless.

Originally released in 1982, and limited to 1000 copies, Hell Bent has nicely dusted off the out-of-print Thou Shalt Not Kill EP and remastered the original to CD (with the help of Alan Douches at West West Side Music). I'm actually surprised how well the transfer from 7" came out. It's just great that some labels focus their attention at keeping significant records live and accessible—a love of documenting hardcore that should be commended.

Eight songs clocking in just over nine minutes, Thou Shalt Not Kill's uncompromising hardcore delivery and clear-cut lyrics are as significant today as they were over twenty years ago: "We've seen the runaround, who needs it anymore? / You've labeled us the clowns, the fools to die at war / To die at war / Die at war / Is this all were living for?"*

Fast, harsh, and still more potent than most of the old school influenced outfits nowadays, I say, Antidote above all others! This is definitely for any fan that loves the deep-rooted hardcore sound, especially from the early 80s. Antidote even says it best themselves in "Real Deal": "Wake up, to the real deal." Thou Shalt Not Kill is just that, a wake-up dose of early, potent New York hardcore-punk that strikes hard.
