A Jealousy Issue
If the Flames Don't Kill Us We Will
Indianola CD

"It's rock 'n roll motherfucker!"*

I dig this.

Maybe it's the vocals, or maybe its A Jealousy Issue's gritty approach to hardcore, but If the Flames Don't Kill Us We Will really had me hanging on every hammering chord.

The music slowly crawls along, with thumping beats and resonating chugs, along with nice segments of acoustic guitars and spoken vocals, but the songs nudge forward, gradually building up tension and anticipation. Sludgy, yes, but A Jealousy Issue does a nice job of staying clear of getting stuck in the mud.

Chugga...chugga...chugga...chugga...

This definitely brings back some good memories of high school and the slower hardcore sounds I was starting to get into then (Abnegation, Jihad, Earth Crisis, Atlas Shrugged, Shai Hulud, etc). If the Flames balances perfectly heavy hardcore, dynamic guitars, softer melodic parts, and just overall a nice diverse sound. This being A Jealousy Issue's debut full-length, I can not wait to hear their progression as a band. Fans of From Autumn to Ashes, Shai Hulud, and the aforementioned outfits, check this out.
