Above This Fire
In Perspective
Life Sentence CD
In Perspective burns and sears with intense heat waves of melodic metal and aggressive hardcore.
Above This Fire's smooth transition from metal to hardcore is the one element that really elevates In Perspective from the countless number of releases out there that encompass the same potent hybridization of the two heavy styles. Mixing a ton of old influences with new and original ideas, Cleveland, Ohio's Above This Fire's first full length is one that never gets stale, spin after spin after ear-bruising spin.
In Perspective definitely contains a little of everything. Moshable chugging breakdowns, Iron Maiden influenced guitar riffing, straightforward old school hardcore chord progressions, youth crew-esque backing shouts, and some solid melody all collectively unite in keeping the high-energized flow in constant motion. Andy Hoffman's vocals similarly reflects that of the shouting approach by Daryl Taberski of Snapcase, yet sung with a slightly more fierce snarl: "I reach out you watch me fall / Now that it's all clear / The very presence of you makes me nauseous / You decay everything you touch / When I leave this place I'll be the stronger one / You'll never see the world through these eyes / I'm the stronger one."*
Above This Fire gets it right. In Perspective is an arm-swinging, leg-kicking workout that will get any fan of the metal-meets-hardcore sound moving.
